The Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust (RD&E) provides Acute and Community services across Exeter and East Devon serving a population of more than 450,000 people. The Royal Devon & Exeter NHS Foundation Trust has been jointly ranked as the best performing non-specialist Trust in the country for overall patient experience of care in the 2016 Care Quality Commission (CQC) Adult Inpatient Survey.
An exciting opportunity has arisen to lead the development of alcohol services within the RD & E. The postholder will be based within the department of hepatology, however will be required to work across many departments, including the Emergency Department, acute medicine, inpatient wards and medical outpatients. We envisage the postholder will develop:
Strategies for screening and brief intervention for patients with harmful alcohol use (in line with the risky behaviors CQUIN)
Protocols for managing acute alcohol withdrawal within the hospital
Training for frontline staff managing alcohol use disorders across and support for staff in inpatient areas
Links to community services for patients with alcohol addiction
Outpatient services for patients with alcohol related liver disease
We are looking for an enthusiastic and driven individual who will relish this diverse and in-depth role as an integral part of a service striving to deliver excellent care. Proven leadership and managerial skills are essential and specific experience in this area is desirable.
